City councilors Steve Murphy (at large) and Charles Yancey (Dorchester, Mattapan), both of whom lost in yesterday's election, share a moment before this afternoon's city-council meeting.

They both just got a raise and will collect more annually on their maxed out pensions.

I think they need 3 consecutive years at the last pay grade to receive that amount to be factored into their pension. That being said, this new raise wouldn't count. I could be wrong - maybe they a have special deal.

Would the following concern parallel concerns about the 100 or so Appointees/Staff at Boston City Council?...

A round of applause for these two, Yancey and Murphy both of whom cared deeply for their constituents in their at large districts that they represented for years.
I will miss watching them in city hall on BNN-TV
they are both part of history in Boston politics..

I don't know about you but my family reunions tend to run around $9k, maybe a bit more.
I like Councilor Yancey a lot!
I'm glad Andrea Campbell won, but I wish she had bumped someone else out.
I love that Yancey is a relentless stickler for details. A while back City Council filed a 17F request for data on our homeless population. Here's Walsh's reply: http://meetingrecords.cityofboston.gov/sirepub/mobilemtgviewer.aspx?meet...
It's very evasive, and as Councilor Yancey pointed out today, part of the 17F specifically asked for data on race, and city of residence. And that was completely omitted from from Walsh's reply.
Walsh responded to 2 questions with "I do not understand the question you are asking." Followed by a lot of "we don't collect that data" and "someone else collects that data."
Anyways, I love that Yancey refused to accept this and is holding Walsh accountable. He's also reached out to the homeless community regarding gender disparities in services.
And being a softie, I love for sponsoring a book fair for kids!

I grew tired of Yancey's constant inquiries about racial statistics and breakdowns in every context. No, I don't think asking the question accomplishes anything. It just forces city hall employees to waste time compiling statistics to indulge the councilor, without actually changing anything.
Volunteers like you should collect
and aggregate data on the homeless relieving the taxpayers of that burden.

Happy that those tax dollars go towards things like this, and would love to see tax payer dollars also collect that aggregate data.

I think the biggest shocker
I think the biggest shocker is Michael Flaherty coming in Third Place. His former campaign manager Jon Romano really screwed up Flaherty's political future!
