Bicyclist hit by dump truck in Inman Square

Cambridge Police report on a crash at Cambridge and Hampshire streets in Inman Square shortly before 8 a.m. on Monday:
Officers working a detail assignment in full patrol uniform witnessed a dump truck strike a bicyclist at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Hampshire Street. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with lower body injuries.
The truck driver was stopped nearby.

You forgot that drivers can never be at fault, because this is America, where might makes right. If you don't want to be blamed for being run over by a dump truck, you should obviously be driving a car. It's common sense! You gotta look out for number one!
Construction area *and* changed traffic pattern
The area is under reconstruction to try to make it safer after the *last* cyclist fatality at this location. Also, Cambridge Street between Hampshire and Prospect was made one-way westbound, with an eastbound contra-flow bike lane, to accommodate outdoor restaurant dining.

Would you say it’s more dangerous in the interim due to the construction?
At least the contra-flow lane doesn’t cause any visibility issues, since bikes head into it rather than out at this intersection.
Not surprisingly, there is a lot more traffic on the roads serving as the eastbound detour. Was the truck turning right from Cambridge eastbound to Hampshire?
There are some easy safety fixes I don’t understand why they never did. For example, the walk lights to cross Inman Street only come on when traffic is coming straight across that crosswalk from Springfield Street, and aren’t on during the green for Hampshire when it would feel like a natural place to yield to pedestrians while turning. And the walk light to cross Hampshire south of Cambridge only comes on when Cambridge has a green and cars are coming around a blind corner, rather than during Springfield’s green when visibility is much better.
Quick-Build Construction!
I remember going to a meeting in spring of 2017, where Cambridge city officials claimed they were going to do a quick build project here so that nobody else got hurt. Hopefully to be completed by Spring 2017, but absolutely for sure really definitely by spring of 2018.
It's 3 and and half years later and they're not even close to done.

They did indeed do that project from the 2017 meeting; it was the (mostly) parking-protected bike lane on Cambridge St between just past Inman and just before Quincy St.

Since that cyclist death in
Since that cyclist death in 2016, the city lowered the speed limit to 25. Then they lowered it to 20 on most streets by misusing the new Safety Zone law by declaring virtually every block in the city a Safety Zone.
Take a look at the Safety Zone map. It's like someone forgot to turn off the sign replicator machine and turned the city into a forest of signs.
I think this incident demonstrates the speed limit reduction did not work and should be repealed.
That awful intersection
I haven't kept up with the plans for improving that mess of an intersection, as I no longer work in the area, but I hope whatever was settled on will go a long ways towards preventing future casualties or fatalities. It's frustrating for all users on a good day, nearly incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't gone through it before, and needed to be addressed years and years ago. It might be my most hated intersection in Cambridge, both as a cyclist and driver.
Hoping for a speed recovery for the cyclist, and proper restitution for their injuries and, presumably, crunched up bike.

I'm disappointed by the planned redesign.
It effectively makes cyclists ride on the sidewalk. Riding straight through on Hampshire or Cambridge will require lots of 90-degree turns and crossing general lanes in crosswalks like a pedestrian.
